Position Paper Guidelines
- Remember the purpose! You are only trying to establish your country's position on your topic.
- Be concise. Go for strength over length.
- Use the conference website for guidance. Each conference has different expectations regarding position papers so be sure to follow their procedures and formats.
- Start early. The earlier you write the position paper the more time you have to research and polish your work. This also allows you time to get familiar with your country and its character.
- Get in touch with your country. Read about its history, search for recent news articles (even better if you can find articles originating from the country itself!), follow it on Twitter if possible, etc. so that you can begin to get a sense of its political and social standings.
- Ask for feedback. Have a veteran Model UN member take a look at your work if you're feeling unsure.
- Relax. While your paper should reflect the country's true feelings on a topic, 100% accuracy is not always possible.
